My young friend was found guilty today of aggravated assault and robbery.
He was identified by the victim the night of the crime (which happened outside at 10:30 pm), the arresting officer said he found the stolen cell phone on his person, the victim claimed the young man punched him in the face, fracturing his jaw and cheek bone.
I'm sure the victim and the cop think he is the one who did it.
I'm sure he is guilty of being a stupid 15 year old. I'm also sure he isn't capable of punching his way through a wet paper bag... he didn't even have the strength to flatten out his back when in a three point stance.
They never asked me what I thought.

I am so sorry. I know how much you believe in this kid.
I hope you keep working with him through this. I know something like this can have long lasting affects on how a young man will view the world and view his future. I hope that with your help and the help of others that he will be able to take this and not harbor hate and despisement, but rather take it and use it as motivation to achieve and reach for a successful and happy future. It does seem that he has been dealt a raw deal from the start. I pray he chooses to take the higher road here and not the one of resentment.
Ditto what Jake said. Love you bro.

It's so unfair the way the system works at times, it seems that most who have been in trouble in the past, if there in a situation again (not being there fault) but around when something happens, the blame falls on them.
yup, except this kid never even got sent to the principals office before this.
It always makes me wonder will the judge consider his prior non-existent record, his school activities, his family and take that into consideration when they charge him, or will they use him to make an "example of the community" throwing him away and trying to ensure his future is full of struggle and despair. Depending on what community you're in, it often plays out very differently.
